Library tree and hierarchy

The Specification Management Library tree nodes use the concept of inheritance (sometimes referred to as parent/child relationships). The tree hierarchies used on the various tabs of the library all function the same way. You can apply a characteristic, specification, or document at any level node in the tree and it will be used (inherited) by new child nodes you create until you add a different characteristic, specification, or document lower in the tree structure.

Library tree hierarchy and individual nodes

Note

Typical principals of inheritance are used in the library tree hierarchy nodes on all tabs of the Specification Management library unless explicitly disallowed for a specific node on the tree.

  • A tree on the Products tab might represent a product catalog or family hierarchy and list individual assemblies shown in the following format: <Assembly Part Number> - <Assembly Part Revision>. The following example of night vision goggles shows a typical product hierarchy.

Note

A FactoryLogix assembly or assembly revision may only be linked to one node in the product tree, however a single node on the tree may contain multiple assemblies/assembly revisions.

  • A tree on the Equipment tab displays connected equipment such as torque drivers and tester links (in-circuit testers or functional testers, for example).
