Units of measure

Note
A unit of measure is also referred to as a unit of issue in FactoryLogix.
The Units of Measure window in the Templates and Standards area of FactoryLogix Office allows process engineers to define acceptable units of measure for data collection activities in the system.

About base units and conversion factors
In FactoryLogix, units are organized into units of measure (Length, Volume, Capacitance, Resistance, and so on). For a particular unit of measure, values are always stored in a base unit which you select in the Units of Measure window. In this window, you also supply a scale factor for every unit that is not its unit of measure’s base unit. When values are displayed or entered in the system, FactoryLogix will apply the scale factor to the base unit automatically. Having all units for a given unit of measure store their values in a consistent base unit facilitates internal computations and database interactions and enables the same values to be displayed differently depending on the context in the FactoryLogix system.
FactoryLogix has pre-populated common measurement types. Each measurement unit has one base unit and a default unit:
The base unit always has a scaling factor of 1.
Note
The scale factor is the amount of each unit needed to make up the Base Unit value.
The Default unit is the value used initially for data collection activities (unless otherwise specified).
