Tracking items with fractional units of measure
Note
A unit of measure is also referred to as a unit of issue in FactoryLogix.
Some manufacturing processes require the ability to assign a specific unit of measure to an assembly rather than an integer/whole number.
For example, when manufacturing cables using a wire extrusion process, a spool of wire starts at a particular length (100 meters). As the spool moves through the extrusion process, new spools are created with different lengths of wire until the original spool is completely depleted. The new spools may go through additional extrusion operations as well as creating new spools. Ultimately the product (that is, the spools created from all the different extrusion operations) equates to the batch quantity.
FactoryLogix allows the use of fractional units of measure (that is, rather than integers only) in part assignments and a variety of other places in the system (see the following list). Users can be exact in their requirements, specifying, for example, that 3.25 feet of a material is needed for a part assignment rather than the 4 feet they would have previously had to specify to ensure the required 3.25 feet was actually available.
The following areas of FactoryLogix allow fractional quantities to be entered or selected:
BOM Library
DataMiner
Inventory management
Label printing
Material Capture activity
Material reservations and transport orders
Mobile Materials Management
Packout
Part assignments
Part library
Stock locations (Kanban quantities)
Workstation material setup
xTend integration modules and API
